Gossamer Blue Love

When the new collection by Gossamer Blue arrived on my doorstep, I immediately fell in love with the colour combination and the patterns of the Gramercy Road, so much so that if I could by clothing with the same colours and patterns I would.

Because I was so inspired by the products, this layout came together in under 90 minutes, which for me is almost record time for such a detailed layout, stitching included.

I am such a sucker for labels, I really like using them to help layer my elements, and every once in a while, I'll actually use them for writing on.  The pre-typed journaling strip that came in the ephemera package was perfect.  In fact that little package is loaded with 50 different pre-cut shapes and phrases.  A great deal for a chronic embellisher like myself.

The wood veneer pieces like this one here are from the On My Desk collection. There were just too awesome to pass up.  From the fun, funky shapes, to the words in multiple sizes this is a great set.

That cluster of ephemera pieces makes me happy.  Love the chartreuse with the the soft pink, and blue. The little pre-typed label is another one from the ephemera package.  With so many fun details all I needed, was to add 2 little strips of typed journaling, and voilĂ , done.  I love when a layout comes together that quickly.  All thanks to new product that inspired my creative senses, and the fun of wearing my beloved cowboy boots that morning.

Like the Gossamer Blue collections as much as me?  You can get it all right here in the Paper Issues shop shop.  Use code: SHERRI to save 20% off your order.  And don't forget to tag us on social media when you share your creations using #paperissues.  We love to see what you make with the goodies you purchase.  Happy shopping friends!

First Love

I was asked recently to complete a layout that had it's focus on journaling.  It's something that I try to incorporate on every layout, even though sometimes it may only be a quick line or two.
These photos I discovered on my phone of Belle with her baby provided a pretty great opportunity to get a story on paper.  We've had Wilson for 5 years now, and I don't think I have ever really documented how much he means to Isabelle.  Wilson has been such a gift to this girl of ours, I honestly think that he calms her, and tones down her "teenage moments" tendencies.  When she's had enough of all of us, she disappears into her room with him, and by the time she re-emerges all is right with the world again.

I'm really loving the look of text on vellum whether it's typed with my typewriter, or written in ink, I think I'm going to incorporate more of it into my pages.

These papers are mostly from the Fancy Pants Meology collection, with the flair from {aflairforbuttons}.  I love how there is always a piece that Shelley has designed that will go with what I'm working on.  Always!

They're So Fancy

Happy Monday friends!

What a busy, but fun-filled week we just had.  Despite the drama that has been our lives these past several weeks, Darwin and I have been having a lot of fun together, but it's been keeping me out of my scrap room.  It's funny how the tough stuff really does bring you together.

Speaking of fun, yesterday afternoon was exactly that for me.  I got into my scrap room for the first time all week, I pulled out this layout that I had started, live streamed the Winnipeg Jets game, and spent the afternoon locked away, scrapping and listening to hockey.  It may be hard to believe simply by looking at me, but there are few things, aside from being with the people whom I love the most, that bring me as much joy.
This layout was started a week ago.  I had the idea of creating a completely stitched background.  After some thought, I decided it would be more interesting to add bits of patterned paper to the stitching to provide some contrast and really show off the stitching.  I pulled out the Bella Blvd scraps I had from this layout, and set to work.

Next I grabbed an old DIY Shop overlay from Crate Paper, and attached it to my photo using a Studio Calico flag clip.

A couple of Fancy Pants tags, popped behind it all, one with a little bit of journaling.  Then, throw in one super cute owl flair button, and boom, done.

It has been quite a while since I've created a layout just for fun, and this one felt great.

Thanks for popping in today friends!

Creating With Sketches V3

It was a pleasure being asked to contribute to Kristine Davidson's brand new sketch book: Creating With Sketches Volume 3.  Her sketches so often pull me out of my comfort zone and lead to fun designs, I otherwise, would not have come up with on my own. Sketch #60 from this latest collection of sketches was no exception.
A new sketch, and a new sketchbook deserved a new collection to work with.  For the first time in a long time, I purchased some Belle Blvd papers to work with.  With the current changing of the leaves, and the scenery around me, I really wanted to create a Fall themed layout.  This collection has Spring written all over it.

My love addiction with doilies and tags, is still going strong as you can see.

These Jillibean sprinkles, like giant wood-backed enamel dots, are hoard worthy, I love them so much.  If you know me at all you know that there's not much I hoard.  I am a fan of only buying what I KNOW I'll use, and using it up on a couple of layouts, and then moving on.  So you know it's a great product when I don't actually want to use it all up.  I used my Silhouette Cameo to cut the word fall out of some of the Bella patterned paper, and backed it with some scrap cardstock.

The Sketchbook has some really great sketches, and examples.  I have my e-copy, and you can get 10% off yours by using my code: V3SHERRI in Kristine's bigcartel shop here.

Go get yours friends, it's got so much insop, and if you've got a smartphone it's a great little resource to have on you when you're out at a crop.  Paper copies are also available. Pin It

Breathe

With all that's been going on in the Funk household over the past couple of weeks, it makes me even more nostalgic for the dog days of summer, especially ones spent at our friends' cottage with a view like this.

I used my favourite piece of patterned paper from the Pink Paislee Solstice collection.  I cut it apart and machine stitched it back down to create a new background for my layout.  When you're able to create so much visual detail with a simple piece of background paper you don't need much more to complete a layout, even when layers and clusters of embellishments are your "go to" design.  These sweet gold foam shapes are a perfect compliment to the colours and design. And how great is it when manufacturers create some cross-over in colour scheme so you are able to mix and match from one collection to another?  The alphas from my title are from the Switchboard collection.  Just another reason why I like to create my layouts using primarily one manufacturer.  I'll do anything I can to reduce my average time of 1.5-3 hours to create one layout. You can see all the latest Pink Paislee collection in the Paper Issues shop right here.  Including the gorgeous Merry & Bright.
This will be my December Daily collection of choice.

Okay enough with the Christmas talk, I am really not ready to welcome the snow and cold, as per usual.  It feels like we've barely had a Fall to speak of, and we certainly didn't have much of a Summer season to boast about either.  We really did get the short end of Mother Nature's stick this past year.  The Winter season promises to be as horrid as it was last year, the only upside this year is that we will be heading to Disney for 10 days at the end of January.  Can't wait to see some new sights this time around, and hit up Universal and Islands of Adventure again.  What about you reader, any Winter holiday plans in the works?

PI +Pinkfresh Studio

It's another new Issue over at Paper Issues.  We were lucky enough to partner up with Pink Fresh Studio this week.  I grabbed some of my True Friend goodies, and set to work using a Fall theme for my pages.
This is one of my most favourite photos ever, I'm pretty sure I've scrapped it at least once before, and I know I for sure have another layout upcoming to share with you using this as one of two photos on the layout. We had just finished our little family photo shoot last Fall when we decided to gather up as many leaves as we could off the path and create some "fun" photos to end the shoot.  I just love the look of joy on the girls' faces.

The gold foil alphas (spelling 'Fall') are pretty cool, sorry they just don't photograph well.
The Pinkfresh embellishments were so easy to incorporate into my design, and the colours were a perfect match.  Hop over to the Paper Issues Blog to check out all the details of our Woodn't You Know It's Fall Issue, and see some other gorgeous uses of the Pinkfresh products.  there are some fun ideas for projects you can link up, and remember your projects do NOT need to be brand new for the issue.  Linking up will earn you a chance at a Pinkfresh Studio goodie bag.  You have until October 26th to link up.

Thanks for stopping by today friends.  I apologize that I've been MIA for the past couple of weeks. For those that follow me on Instagram and Facebook you will know that life has been a bit of a roller coaster around here with ThĂ©a's health scare almost two weeks ago, as well as another situation that I haven't yet shared with my social media friends.  I haven't quite had the time, nor the presence of mind to really figure out how to put it all into words and document it all.  I just want to reassure the few of you that follow me here on my blog,  that I DO NOT plan on shutting down my blog, I just have had a lot going on in my personal life.  With that said, I also wanted to say how very grateful I am for all of the love and support that you all have sent via text, private message, IG comment, even phone calls and cards.  From meals, to flowers, to most importantly, your prayers.  My family feels the love from around the world, and I can not thank you enough.  ThĂ©a is healing wonderfully. It's almost hard to believe that she even went uneer the knife only one and a half weeks ago.  The results of the pathology report should be available for us in a couple of weeks when we go in for her post op appointment.  Someday, when I'm ready I'll share all about this crazy chapter of our lives.  Until then, please know that I have a few scrappy projects lined up to share through for Paper Issues and {aflairforbuttons}, aaaannnnd a really fun scrappy secret that I'll let you in on in a few weeks, it's a good one!

Thank you for stopping by today, and for taking the time to leave a little love! Pin It
